Here Is My Story

Currently Living in Austin, TX — solving complex problems at IBM.

My Process

Grind, brew, sip, work — My daily ritual. Before things kick off you better believe Im sipping on some fair trade coffee.
I am a firm believer in research. It is imperative to determine the problem and understand it before dishing out solutions.
Once I arrive at a valid design problem; ideas, client or user needs, and inspiration mend together to form a proposal, for a possible solution.
Time to re-fuel and top off the mug.
Through the use of wire-framing and rapid prototyping, I produce what is necessary, do it with swagger and cross my fingers with confidence. Considering the problem that is at hand, the design, in its beginning stage (1st time around) will only improve as it is tested and finer detail will be added.
My understanding of what really happens when someone interacts with what I've made usually happens when I actually watch what they do and how they do it. I have learned to gather information based on what the user does, opposed to what they say they do. The most rewarding feeling is watching the user use what I have made in the way it was designed but, more often than not, it doesn't quite work that way, but thats the beauty of it. Fail fast.
It is back to drawing boards. I take what I have learned, apply it to what I had previously made, only improving the idea. Innovation is key, that is why the research stage is so important. Understanding human behavior and the trends of digital products go hand in hand.

I'd like to consider myself a jack of all trades but let's get real.

When I should be paying attention to you, I am thinking about that kickass website I saw the other day, just hoping for the opportunity to bring it up and talk your ear off about it. I become infatuated with breaking something down to its core elements, studying it and figuring out ways to make it better. My philosophy is this — “Design backed by real research.” Why? Because I believe design should be informed by research or feedback. My design rests at the intersection of functionality and visual design. I stay focused on user needs with a passion of bringing some, unexpected experience and exceptional visual impression.

When I am not pulling my hair out over what typeface to use or killing myself in the studio, I am spending time with my wife and two kiddos. I enjoy the luxuries of traveling, throwing down with the brush-pen, the outdoors, a good Sunday of football (Go Broncos) and of course a good shot of espresso. Currently, I reside in the ever-expanding, city of Austin, Texas. My current role lies within the depths of the corporate world at IBM as a Visual/UX Designer — working on Enterprise software.
